Hi,
Is it possible during peak usage hours to dynamically set equally max download/upload speeds of a wireless network,
In other words distribute equally available bandwidth to CPE’s during peak usage and increase during off peak, and prevent power users from downloading at max speed 24/7 but can do so at off peak hours or whenever bandwidth is available, don’t want some cpe’s downloading hugh files at say 7Mb at network peak load hours and others struggling to browse to net?
I suppose this script request would be the oversell bandwidth management?
At present we have a static download/upload (DL/UL) limit set by PPPoE,
n21roadie
Thank you,
But unfortunately this method of using preset times to limit bandwidth and is not load dependent,
The network load could be at 60% of max at say 7:10pm and using the example of speeds listed in the wiki the speed would be set at 500kb.
If i could give out extra bandwidth equally to active cpe’s upto a set max level when it is available?
scritp monitr my tarfice and depnd on it set the limit
that what you ask for ???
i dont think i had see script like that i hope somone do or do wright
Sorry I don’t understand some of your reply,
Let me explain my request further, perhaps if I had AP load% download speed limit for cpe’s
Not of workable figures yet but say max download at AP load of: 50% load = 10M limit, 60% = 7M, 70% load = 5M, 75% = 4M, 80%= 3M, 85% = 2M, 90% = 1M,
I would like to sell higher wireless broadband speeds but do not want to have the network reduced to a crawl during peak usage periods due to power users and the negative press by unhappy customers, my thoughts are if possible to distribute available bandwidth to active customers during peak usage periods up to a max limit,
Can this be done?
Bump:
For example max wireless bandwidth at the AP is say 25Mbits, 40 CPE registered but not all as usual downloading simultaneously, the classic setup is simply set a download/upload limits but as mentioned if I sell higher speeds the AP could reach saturation more often and for longer periods, I don’t want to fall into the “speeds up to” scenario and the negative press by unhappy customers as the AP delivers max bandwidth to “first in, first served" then saturation?
I would like if possible to have a “smart” DL/UP allowance especially during peak load hours,
During peak loads hours say 7Mbit for 5mins then a reduction to 3Mbit,
After 30mins at 3Mbit, a CPE still downloading (big files?) during peak hours is further reduced to 1Mbit,
My main objective of this exercise is to give higher speeds if and when the network can deliver without saturating the AP, and please the majority and not the minority?
I will ask again can this be done with Mikrotik?
