SD Card Uses

For the rb750gr3, if you’re not using “the dude,” is there any good use for an sd card? What else could it be used for, and is it worth it/useful?

Ext. memory on all Mikrotik devices is primarily for data bases of RouterOS, logs, skins for hotspot etc.
It is not for SMB or NAS purpose, as its not fast nor has ROS the services to do that.

If you don’t know what you could use it within ROS then you won’t need it.

configuration backups
tftp files
logs

I also would love to have a small HTTP service.

… usermanager database
… webproxy cache

… W?Bic! purpose … ***

*** Why ? Because I can !

For curiosity’s sake, if you’re using “the dude”, what else these cards could be used for ?

I’ve got the mikrotik on order, and I need to get an sd card for another project, so I’m wondering if I should get an extra or not. I wasn’t planning on it. It’s my understanding “the dude” uses the sd card, so that would be a reason to use it. But I’m not currently planning on using that.

I would like to do more logging, but I think it might make more sense to send it to a syslog server. I think there’s bandwidth graphs, too. Not sure about that data.

I don’t think that graphing data location can be set to SD card. Logging definitely can be set to SD card, quite handy if you don’t have rsyslog server on LAN because logs written to SD card, survive reboots.

.. and those loggings to disk can span a much longer period too if you want since most SD cards have a bit more space to use.

… with dude comes also the Syslog server (part of dude). Keeping year long syslog files on SD card.
… also with dude: all the *.npk files (metered uplink, 1 copy for all devices)
