Serial console on RB450G

Hello,

I bought a cheap PL2303 cable USB → COM that I hoped to be able to use to connect to my Mikrotik (and others devices) to recover from stupid mistakes when needed

As I was installing 6.29, I decided to plug it into the router, launch screen 115200 8N1 on my Mac and see boot loader to confirm it would work but nothing shows up. Tried to reboot once more and still nothing.
No more luck once booted with port + console (vt100) enabled.

Any chance to get this working or does RouterBoard need a special cable ? That’s not what I was able to find on the net.

As a side note, it works with my Zyxel switch so on Mac/Driver side, it looks to be OK.

Thank you!

Pierrick

To connect via console through Your USB → COM cable You need additionally a Null modem cable. Have You tried a Mikrotik Netinstall?

Make sure it’s not a TTL version…

It’s this one:

So I guess it is a TTL version - A null modem cable between this cable and the Mikrotik router should do ?

Thank you

Then is not the TTL version, so a null-modem cable should do.

So I’m using this USB to Serial with a null modem cable (Null Modem Cable DB9F to DB9F RS232 to RS-232 Null cable) and still nothing

/system console says “serial0 vt100”

and port list:

name: serial0
baud rate: 115200
data bits: 8 bits
parity: none
stop bits: 1 bit
flow control: none

I still did not get the cable to work. No other idea ?

Thanks!
