We have 2 links running on an RB800 on a 15m tower, arranged as follows:
Both use 27dbi grids which are horizontally polarised, with link A using R52Hn cards running single grid 802.11n and B using R5H cards. In both cases, we are running station mode, while the other side is AP. Link A is 0.8km and link B is 16.2km.
Initially we had only link A running, reaching speeds of up to 105mbps and signals of -50 to -55 without any issues.
Recently, however, we have enabled link B, and since then link A’s signal has dropped to -37 and the speed has dropped to no more than 7mbps. When we switch link B off again then everything goes back to normal, so we know it’s not a hardware issue. Furthermore, when I climb the tower and stand between the grids A and B, everything is fine again.
We have 8 grids on our tower, some running N and and some running A, and have never had this issue before. The only difference with these two is that the grids are horizontal while all the rest are vertical. Also, there is a 300mm gap between the bottom of grid A and the top of grid B.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how we could fix the problem?
If the signal was originally -50 to -55, and now is -37, that is a considerable increase in signal strength. What frequencies are you using on those two antennas? As much separation as possible I hope.
is the two link using the same ssid? If yes, then rodolfo may be right!
Are you using separate board for the two link A & B or one board using two wireless interface?
Which ever one you are using, check your configuration carefully, if possible, reset and reconfigure from scratch applying the basic config for connectivity first. also scan to ensure you dont have a duplicate ssid around you! bcos signal of -37 over that distance is something else.
what i would like to know is if a signal goes in the front of 1 grid and out the back can it go through the grid behind and change the signal of the 2nd grid from -55 to -35

No! What was suggested which was the case is the 2 interfaces connected to each other becos you specified same ssid for both.
So when you deactivate the second interface, it will connect to the real distant link giving you -55 and when you activate it back, since it is closer, it will definately have stronger signal (-35) and it will connect to it by default.
So all you need do is set the ssid of B to be different from A.
