Setting bgp community strings

Hi,

I’ve looked about and can’t find any configuration examples on how to set community strings for a bgp peer/neighbor. Any examples or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

use routing-filters. just add one that sets a BGP community under the action screen.

Sam,

Thanks so much! I’ve noticed your posts about BGP and cogent. I’m setting up cogent/integra in a few weeks, cogent would act as primary. Any words of wisdom on configuration?

make massive use of communities at cogent to route around them  they have issues with many big providers and you definitely don’t want to suffer of roundtrips with 1sec and more to them.
example: AS174-AS3320 (Deutsche Telekom)

They have one 10Gbit-Port in FFM and don’t want to pay for another one, so performance from/to these networks is a joke after 4 or 5 in the evening. as cogent is putting pressure on the whole market with their 3,5$-4$/Mbit-Offer everybody tries to kick their asses and reduce settlement-free peering and tries to get them to pay for their traffic and as cogent can’t do that (simply moneywise they couldn’t) this won’t change so fast but insted gets worse and worse.
so really have a second upstream and route around cogent for the known “bad” networks.

Thadem - I’ve been dealing with this lately. Is there a known list or forum where people talk about these issues? I don’t always know when there is a bad path out there so it’s hard to know. My plan was to simply advertise thru my upstream the Cogent community string that limits my annoucement to their direct customers only. Have you tried this?

174:991 Do not send route to peers.
