Setting up and configuring Mikrotik NetMetal ax to my network

I have just purchased the Mikrotik NetMetal ax Access Point (AP) to link an outbuilding with the main house. I need to have WiFi around the outbuilding and have Ethernet cable running underground to this out building. I have connected the Mikrotik HGO antenna to the Mikrotik Netmetal ax and am trying to connect the AP to the computer.

However the AP never appears on the WiFi list when I click the computer Networking Connections whether an RJ 45 connector is connected to the AP RJ45 port or not

I have also searched for the AP using the Mikrotik mobile app but that has not picked it up either

I have to confess that I am very much an amateur on AP’s so any help would be much appreciated

Regards

Mark

Generally speaking (as there may be exceptions) Mikrotik devices with Wi-Fi have not a default configuration that activate the radio(s), you usually need to connect via ethernet, the first ethernet port (the only one in your case) should have an IP of 192.168.88.1 (or depending on models .2, .3) and be running a DHCP server assigning addresses in range 192.168.88.10-254.

In any case, It Is advised to use Winbox (still via ethernet) to configure the device, see here why:
