So here is what I am playing with.
I have a RB1200 with 2 WAN feeds. OS 5.18
Ether-10 is Cable Modem from RCN
Ether-9 is Verizon LTE CradlePoint router
What I want to do in the simple terms is this…
Set the Ether-10 to be the main and ALL TRAFFIC TO GO ON THIS GATEWAY if active.
On event Ether-10 goes down.
Change Ether-9 to default and route all traffic
Monitor Ether-10 for when it comes back up
On event Ether 10 is up start timer
Timer checks that Ether-10 is up for 5 minutes
Once Timer concludes that Ether-10 has been up for 5 minutes
Change Ether-9 distance
Change Ether-10 distance
All traffic back on Ether-10
Both these connections are dynamic IPs
I notice a problem with Dynamic Servers filling in when I switch between gateways by disabling an interface.
Is there a command I should issue to Update “DNS Dynamic Servers”?
No DNS traffic passes till these update.
I have set up failover once about 1.5 years ago and am drawing a blank on setting distance at the moment.
