Setup a simple ptp transparent link

Hello

I need some advises setting up a simple ptp (trasparent) link

My hardware setup is

SIDE A

411u routerboard
R52nM 802.11a/b/g/n dual band miniPCI card
5Ghz 23db Panel

SIDE B

411u routerboard
R52nM 802.11a/b/g/n dual band miniPCI card
5Ghz 23db Panel

Distance 2 km

My setup

SIDE A

Interface bridge : bridge
wlan1: 5ghz A/N (5280)
wireless mode : bridge
wds mode : dymanic
wds default bridge: bridge
nstreme : enabled

SIDE B

Interface bridge : bridge
wlan1 : 5ghz A/NA (5280)
wireless mode : station wds
wds mode : dymanic
wds default bridge : bridge

It seems to be working ok on lab however i have some question that i need your advices

Should i use 40mhz channel or 20 mhz?

Where do i connect the antenna pigtail cable on L6 or L7 since im still on lab testing ( i have connect them on L6 and seems to be working ok )

What is the actually bandwith speed that i sould expect?

The 2 points have clear sight and minimum noise since the place i need to setup them is pretty clean of interference

any detailed optimum settings will be highly appriciated!

Thank you in advance!

you have missed something…
Please refer to below..

SIDE A

Interface bridge : bridge
wlan1: 5ghz N-only (5280)
channel bandwidth: 20/40Mhz
wireless mode : bridge
wds mode : dymanic
wds default bridge: bridge
nstreme : (don’t use)
bridge port: ethernet
wireless protocol: nv2

SIDE B

Interface bridge : bridge
wlan1 : 5ghz N-only (5280)
channel bandwidth: 20/40Mhz
wireless mode : station wds
wds mode : dymanic
wds default bridge : bridge
nstreme : (don’t use)
bridge port: ethernet, wlan1
wireless protocol: any

thank you for your fast reply

however still questions left unansweared

why to use nv2 and not nstreme?

on which L should i connect the untenna pigtail cable L6 or L7?

By choosing 20/40 means that is will use 40 mhz if its possible?

how much of real bandwith should i expect from this kind of setup you proposed?

Thank you in advance!

hi..
i just crossed check…

the NV2 can give you more bandwidth compare to nstreme.
as the RB411U is only with 300Mhz cpu clock speed, the max you can get the real transit rate is only 30Mbps full duplex in the 5-Ghz A.

to run the 5Ghz-N-only, you should using the dual polarity antenna, since you cpu is low, you should go to the 5Ghz-A, that’s enough for you due to hardware limitation.

regarding the antenna port, i afraid i not able to tell you as you should email to support ask the chain 0 is L6 or L7.

thank you very much for the information

one last question

what your recomendation would be on hardware for a good ptp transparent link for 15 km ?

I mean on hardware

what routerboard
what mini pci card
what antenna

are the best choices to make ?

btw Thank you very much for your fast replys

  1. RB411Ah (Mikrotik)
  2. F52N-Pro (Dbii)
  3. 29dbi dual polarity antenan (Lanbowan)

You can easily get the 40M full duplex tcp traffic with the cheapest cost.

ok i did some lab testin and here are some setups and resaults

setup

side a

band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : any
bandwith test : avg total 9.6 kbs/ 4Mbs very unstable
TZ/RX Signal: -54 / -56 (its stays the same for every configuration)
TX/RX Rate: 65 mbps /65mbps (very unstable)
TX/RX CCQ : avg 50 / 50
Nstreme: enabled

side b
band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : any
bandwith test : avg total 3.3 3.2 very unstable
TZ/RX Signal: -54 / -56 (its stays the same for every configuration)
TX/RX Rate:
TX/RX CCQ :
nstreme: enabled

side a

band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : nv2
bandwith test : avg total 10 10.1 mbps / 10.2 Mbs it stops transmiting after a while
TZ/RX Signal: -54 / -56 (its stays the same for every configuration)
TX/RX Rate: 48-64 mbps / 48-64 mbps ( unstable)
TX/RX CCQ : avg 70-90 / 70-90 %
Nstreme: enabled

side b
band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : nv2
nstreme: enabled

on bandwith test some times send and receive ok some times only receive ? i mean if i stop and start the test

side a

band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : nv2
bandwith test : avg total 10 10.1 mbps / 10.2 Mbs it stops transmiting after a while
TZ/RX Signal: -54 / -56 (its stays the same for every configuration)
TX/RX Rate: 54 mbps / 54 mbps ( stable)
TX/RX CCQ : avg 50-70 / 50-70 %
Nstreme: disabled

side b
band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz
Wireless protocol : nv2
nstreme: disabled

on bandwith test after a few second only receiving ?

ok i think i got it

side a

band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz/40MHz and above
Wireless protocol : nv2
bandwith test : avg total 24.1 mbps / 20 Mbs (stable)
TZ/RX Signal: -54 / -56 (its stays the same for every configuration)
TX/RX Rate: 121 mbps / 121 mbps ( stable)
TX/RX CCQ : avg 50-60 / 50-60 %
Nstreme: enabled

side b
band 5GHz A/N
Channel width 20MHz/40MHz
Wireless protocol : any
nstreme: enabled

bandwith test is stable and its not stoping trasmiting after a while however i get may lost packets

ok i tryed a real world download

its seems that im able to download faster when i set wireless protocol on both end to : any but when i test the links with winbox bandwith tester i get very low speeds

if i set the point a wireless protocol to nv2 i get very high bandwith output on windox bandwith meter but lower download speed

any clue?

Try la…
just use the 5Ghz-A instead of A/N.

then the bandwidth test use the tcp protocol instead of udp protocol.
RB411U you max can get 30Mbps full duplex traffic only.

i switched to 5Ghz A and i do get better CCQ readings

File transfer takes exactly the same time as with 5 GHZ A/N

finaly i have set the wireless protocol on both ends at nstreme and switch to 5GHZ A as you suggested and seems to be the best setting so far

thank you vincent for you help i highly appreciated karma edded!

ah and one last erelevant question but i ask just in case you know

Do you know if its possible to add my company logo on web login screen of the router os ?

I assume the login page you talking about is non hotpost.

this you have to request the branding maker from the mikrotik or your reseller do it for you.
else, there is no way you can do that.

beside this, i would suggest you to disable the ssh, web services as you can see there is a lot of china ip try to attempt your equipment.

thanks.
