SFP+ DAC cable, HP J9281B and RB5009

Dear all!

I am got happy when I realised that my Aruba 1930 8g Instant On had 2 SFP+ ports and my new RB5009UPr+S+IN also had an 10G SFP+ port.
First I tried with a “generic” Mikrotik SFP+ cable (H!Fiber) - this was detected by the RB5009 but not the Aruba Switch..
Searching the internet I found out that HPE has a different coding/firmware on the DAC cable (did I understood this right?) - so I found a HPE original cable, a J9281B.

With this Cable the Aruba Switch detects the cable, but not the RB5009..

Have tried various settings, Auto Negotiation on/off - advertise 10G etc - I can not get it to work at 10G speed.
Turning off Auto Negotiation I can get 10M, 100M and 1G to work (full duplex) but NOT 10G..

I have tested RouterOS 7.9.1, 7.9.2 and 7.10rc5 - nothing gets it running at 10G.

My RB5009 “sees” the cable, as per below:

Vendor Name WL GORE
Vendor Part Number SCN-2002-2
Vendor Revision D
Vendor Serial CN1335JXXX
Manufacturing Date 11-08-20

I am at loss.. Anyone with experiance of interconnecting HPE SFP+ with Mikrotik?

I have same issue with DAC cable from CCR to HPE Aruba switch.

On MikroTik side, on interface it says:

  • “no link”
  • visible voltage, temperature etc.
  • RX packets are coming
  • TX packets is zero

Any solution?

in toch interface, there are visible UDP packets (broadcast IP’s etc.)

I have that one working at 10G with CRS317-1G-16S+ and HP 2530-48G-2SFP+ J9855A using auto negotiation at both ends: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09HHCPYHX

For CRS317-1G-16S+ to Aruba Instant On 1930 24G PoE 4SFP/SFP+ 370W JL684A Switch I am using Mikrotik XS+DA0001 using auto negotiation at Mikrotik and “Physical Mode = 10 Gbps Full Duplex” at the Aruba (there is no Auto selection).

The 10GTek identifies as:
sfp.png

RESOLUTION for me - on SFP interface disable ethernet auto negotiation and set fixed speed (10G)

Resolution for me in two steps.

After to much trial and error I realised that the Aruba 1930 8P switch only has SFP (1G), not SFP+ (10G).. The 24P and 48P has SFP+ and I just overlooked it..

Second resolution, I bought an equivalent Mikrotik Switch - all works as expected now, got an Aruba SW over..
