SFP port Latency

Hi,
Im new with networking and not really understand how SFP port work with fibre connection
I just wondering

I connect from mikrotik switch using the SFP port and use my media converter to connect directly to my laptop
I just wondering, i’m still getting 18ms reply when pinging directly

Any other way to improve the latency to <1ms ?

Is it a constant value of 18ms latency? 18ms is unusual for short cable distances. Why not try uniform hardware types at both ends first, such as Mikrotik to mikrotik instead of Mikrotik to another device(media converter). Can you measure the power output(optical power)?

Yeah, it is consistent 18ms from any device to reach straight to the Mikrotik switch
