Sierra 3G modem in Rb411U

Hey,

today i got a Sierra 3G modem and Rb411U to play around with.

How do i find out my signal strength?
Also, Do i have to attach an external antenna to the modem?
Is it possible to send SMS’s through the sim card? like service requests to purchase data bundles etc?

I have been reading on the forum and every one who seems to buy this combo has problems, Im beginning to regret buying it.

they speak about upgrading the firmware on the mini pci-e card? how on earth do i go about doing that?
Because my board is very unresponsive and the 3G aint working :frowning:

Pls help :frowning:

How do i find out which channel on the modem does what?
Under ports it says my modem has 7 channels open? but all the commands etc require you to know which channel does what?

Also how do i upgrade the sierra cards firmware, because the whole routerboard is slow and unresponsive and the modem does not work?

THanks

Try to upgrade to RouterOS v5.0rc5 as v5.x has better support for 3g cards.
Try out which channel responds to the AT commands.
This manual could be useful for you:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Option_Globetrotter_HSDPA_USB_Modem

i have read that wiki page, and also none of them respond on the terminal cause the whole RB does not reallty function.

]But i will try v5 thanks

Still not working…

This really sucks. I see on v5 that under ports there is a firmware button? Is that ot update the firmware of the ports (modem)?
If so great, but where do i find the firmware for the modem. i have looked high and low on their website?

Should the connection just work with all the ppp settings on default?

the firmware section if for the Gobi2000 chipset card.
For the sierra cards firmware try to look in the internet, maybe in some 3g forums there is some info on the firmwares.

I contacted my supplier and they said they will try get it,

I will let you know.
