Signal Strenght always showing greater than -85 in my SXT5 Lite

Hi there,

I have ask a new broadband connection in my local area ISP. They are giving internet access throgh wifi antenna. Their enginner came and install the antenna model Routherboard SXT5 LITE. But when they have checked the signal strength of their tower it is showing greater than -80 for all of their 4 channels. Their enginner is now telling signal strength should be below -70 or -75 to connect.

I could not understand why they are saying like that. If signal strength is showing -85 or -90 then what is wrong here??? Could you guide me in this regard.

Thanks in advance,
Neeraj Kumar

-85 or -90 means weak signal
-75 or -70 is normal signal
-65 or -60 is great signal
-55 is excellent

If you have such low signal, it means you need to align the antenna, adjust the angle and position it higher above ground, so that ISP tower is in good visibility, and pointed correctly.

Their engineer is right to tell you that this installation is not good. I assume you ask your question here because they deny to do the installation for you.
If this was me I would say the same. With this signal you will have a problem with the connection and you will call them with problems and they will not be able to do anything to fix them.

The signal is a measure of how much LOWER than the emitted signal it is.

So, a -90dB signal is 90dB lower than its strength at the emitting antenna. This means that the signal closer to zero is the stronger one.

Your answer suggests that closer to zero is better, but anything stronger than -50 will be too strong, causing distortion and problems.

Sorry, my bad. True, there is an upper limit too.

Thank you all! After little bit alignment now i am able to achieve signla level 72-78 and got connected to ess. Now i can acess internet without problem.
