Hi,
I’m migrating from Proxim Tsunamis to Microtik RB500s.
Connected to the same Cables/Antennas the Tsunamis
show nearly 10db better Signal Strength, but the Performance
over the link is nearly the same. I use CM9/R52 cards.
The cards inside the tsunamis is some older Atheros card.
So I would expect the signal strength should show up
nearly the same. Band is 5GHz.
What is the trick?
Additional: I’ve a Cisco AP which from one day to the other
showed 10db less signal strength of his clients. Replacing
the AP does not change anything. Rebooting the AP shows
good signal dropping down within 2 minutes. But the
connection to the clients works fine. I’ve clients shown with
-100db working fine (which I would never expect).
Again: How is signal strength calculation done? May interference
do not only drop SNR but also influence the calculation of
signal strength??
