Simple AP Addressing

Hello Everyone,

I am a MikroTik convert moving away from our current hardware of BriLan.

I have a simple question about a basic setup.

I am running an RB532 with an SR2 as one of our accesspoints. The RB532 has a piece of Cat5E on ether1 connecting it to the network switch as backhaul, and the wlan1 is the A.P.

What is the best way to address the device?

I set it up originally as ether1 addressed as 10.0.18.1/16, with the default gateway as 10.0.10.1.

The default gateway I.P. I gave it, is the same default gateway address that everything else in our network has. This RB532 is connected straight into the network switch, after all.

I then made a bridge between ether1 and wlan1. Seems to work well, with the exception of the SR2 not wanting to re-register clients when you reboot the router. - but that is another subject.

Did I set this up correctly, for a simple bridge? Do I need to assign an address to the bridge, or to the ether1, or to the wlan1?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Adam

If you have bridged ether1 and wlan1 you need to assign the IP address to the bridge, not directly to ether1.
