I have a Hap AC2 downstairs (main router connected to 80 down / 20 up ADSL internet in the UK).
I then have a Hap AC Lite upstairs (connected to the AC2 via ethernet)
Ethernet wired devices can make full use of the 80/20 connection.
I’ve got the Hap devices configured in Capsman with a single SSID, but I can’t fathom a basic wi-fi config that will cover both floors.
I just seem be tinkering without any real clue as what ‘standard’ should look like and I think my config is probably a right old mess.
So I would like to start from scratch with some recommended settings and go from there.
- Downstairs is 10m x 5m
- Upstairs is 6.5m x 5m
Should those two AP be able to cover two floors of 10m x 5m and 6.5m x 5m?
We have a usual family collection of tablets, phones and laptops.
I’m after coverage/stability over high performance.
We don’t high speed game or anything.
Questions:
- Do I have separate channels on each of the two AP?
- Is this the same for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz?
- This article (https://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/UK18/presentation_5900_1539209343.pdf) mentions “Lower Transmit power by at least 7dB on 2.4ghz so 5ghz is preferred”. And also talks about “Antenna Gain”.How do I do that in the GUI? Do I even need to bother?
- Does anyone have a simple guide / cribsheet for setting up wifi in the home setting?
- On the HAP AC2 and HAP Ac Lite what are recommended channel widths? The have two chains each?
- Similarly, can and should I use any extension channels?
- Would it be worth just starting to nail a consistent 2.4ghz config before adding the complexity of 5ghz?
Any help, advice, pointers to recommended articles would be very much appreciated.
If you need any further info please do ask.
Thank you.
