Hello,
I run a Motorola Canopy network.
I want to be able to limit the maximum bandwidth each user is able to reach. The Canopy radios have a feature where they can burst to the maximum speed the radio can handle assuming traffic conditions at the AP allow for it. With the 2.4 GHz APs customers could theoretically burst up to say 10 Mbps.
I want to limit all users to say a max of 3 Mbps.
In order to do this I need to limit at the router. I’ve read a document at wiki.mikrotik.com that suggests simple queues can be used to do this. A queue for each user I have on the network.
I have about 400 customers. Does making 400 simple queues make sense. Can a RB 1000 handle this many queues without any negative impact?
I did try this on a 3.4 Ghz Intel based system and the CPU usage went up drastically and at one point it seemed that the router dropped connections or locked up for a moment.
Thanks for your help.
