Hey all, my company is replacing our SDSL with 2 SIP based T1’s that are going to both be bonded and our data and voip will ride over them dynamically. So if no one is on any phone we will have 3/3 speed, if someone picks up a phone then our speed drops by 128k per call etc.
Anyway, my question is this, is Mikrotik compatible with this type of T1?
We currenty use SonicWalls but ATX has said that SonicWalls cannot handle SIP T1’s.
Never heard of a SIP T1 … there is either a point to point t1, frame relay t1, or a pri T1. . . Ask them for a URL that explains what they are trying to sell you - or what type of termination the T1 is.

So what is their handoff, a 100base-T or a t1 serial interface? Sounds to me like they are giving you a managed router and csu/dsu possibly … hard to tell from their brochure though.

From what I was told all traffic over this T1 will be using the SIP protocol. As far as the interface is concerned, I am not 100% sure, but I do know they will install some sort of box which will break out like 10 lines for our PBX and then have what I assume will be an ethernet interface for our Mikrotik.
Sounds like they are giving you a full T1 and 10 VoIP lines.. SIP stands for session initiation protocol and is used primarily for VoIP.
They also may be providing a fractional T1 and breaking up the 24 x 64k channels into 14 x 64k channels and 10 digital voice lines. Which would leave you with a ~890kbps fractional T1.
