Slow Connection

I work on a ship and have inherited the network setup, so don’t have any background with the Microtik 951 2n Routerboard we have use. The WAN port was originally fed from the VSAT dish. We are now in a shipyard for an extended period and taken an ethernet cable supplied from the dock.

The router is in the network at the network at the moment solely as a DHCP server, but eventually for load balancing, once we augment out network.

MY problem is we had connection problems so I worked my back to resetting the router. I then re-installed the last backup file, which was made in June.

So, in the basic setup page:

The shipyard supplied me the IP of their default gateway, which i plugged into the settings as the gateway for the router.

I entered the address of 3 DNS servers

and left the rest of the settings as is.

Now we get very slow connection, with each webpage “resolving host” for a long time. On the test laptop it did log onto Skype, and I could open Google, but not much else. I tried entering the Google IP to see if it was a DNS issue, but it took equally long to resolve?

Any help would be appreciated,
