slow link between pc and router

i have noticed that the connection between my router and windows pc maybe a bit slow

for example when i first started winbox it started downloading its dll files.

considering i am 1)admin 2)i have no speed limit set for my account and 3)the router is next, i should be getting faster speeds than 19Kb and 20.

heres a picture to demonstrate

this makes me wonder if my web browsing is being hurt also.

i am also things are a bit laggy in winbox.

well an update to this.

i installed a new server at work on a dell machine which has a Gigabit ethernet and i get the SAME delays. it took about 3 minutes to get winbox to get its plugins.

we plan on having routeros because of its features with hotspot at work and want to purchase a large license however i fear there may be problems with through-put data.

i constantly am complaining to my provider that the internet is slow and i am fearing now on my home network that the problem is not the provider but the routeros system.

i have the 3Com card for the LAN and the ET-1216 card for the WAN (internet coming in from satellite)

please advise.

From my experience when you download the plugins using mac winbox the speed is always slow like that, compared to when you specify the ip.

So you showing that image isnt really that relevent.

in regards to the network cards though.

which shall i use for lan and which for WAN?

A colleague just had a similar problem. He was using the MAC-WinBox protocol (i.e. connecting not via ip address, bus via mac address to the RouterOS box).

Using ip to connect solved all speed issues.

I myself have run into issues from time to time with the MAC level protocols in RouterOS. As those are broadcasted, there’s the potential that there are problems with this.

One time a very strange “intelligent” switch even shut down the port my laptop and the RouterOS machine were on when I tried to transfer a software update via MAC WinBox, because it “thought” that this was some kind of broadcast storm… Man, this did take some time to find the reason.

So: If connecting via MAC-WinBox, try using the ip address and see if it makes any difference!

right. that problem is fixed

like i said we want to implement routeros at work for bandwith management and other features

i am concerned about bandwith management

we will be using 4 gigabit ethernet cards. we want to do load balancing.
