Slow ports

I’ve had my router for a few years now and just upgraded my service.

I have a 2011UiAS-2HnD and Spectrum 940Mbps service. When connecting directly to modem I get correct speed. Using the same cable connected to the router, and then connecting my PC to the router, I cannot get anything close to that speed.

  • I have verified all cables, CAT6a new.
  • I completely reset the configuration on the router. The only think I configured was the dhcp pool. Nothing else!
  • Ether1 has the cable modem connected.
  • Ether2 has the switch connected, a Cisco SGE2000.
  • Note that I am testing with my laptop connected to Ether3 on the ROUTER, not on the switch. I did this to exclude the switch.
  • All ports on the router show rate 1 Gbps. No errors. No drops.

Why can I not get the full throughput to the internet??

Because RB2011 is an old and (for today’s standards) slow router. Check official test results and concentrate on number in “Routing 25 → ip filter rules → 512 byte [packet size]” which seems to be the most relevant for real-life usage.
To make full use of your service, you’ll need a much faster router. Depending on other requirements (number of LAN ports, wireless AP, …) you could choose from one of following devices: hAP ac², hAP ac³, RB4011 (wireless edition) or RB4011 (wired-only edition). Or some other higher end device, but be sure to check test results sub-page.
