SMB speed and CPU usage

Hello,

I would like to know If anyone else has done some speed testing with SMB feature?
I must sadly say it is pretty much useless at this time for and SOHO NAS/router combination.

I have tested with one old USB 1GB stick (transcend) and the speed was horrible (500 KB/s, CPU 100%).
Then I thought i would test it with brand new OCZ Vertex 4 via USB converter and the speeds did come up to 4MB/s (CPU 80-100%).

The main concern is obviously CPU load and then comes the speed which is not exactly stellar..

I have used RB751G-2HNd with ROS 5.17.. I guess that MIPS 24Kc V7.4 @ 400MHz simply isnt fast enough for SOHO / ROuter combo..
Or is it just buggy SMB implementation or even my configuration…

Any comments and other user expieriences (not looking for “it is a router not a NAS” ones  )
Has anyone tried SMB sharing on x86 machine?
