I have a computer with Mikrotik RuterOS (DHCP, PPPoE, two interfaces, one to the ISP, and the other to the switch) and two routerboards that serve as wifi access point. In the network there are about 40 users who connect via PPPoE, or switch on wifi on the routerboard.
I would like to have a monitoring and network management via SNMP protocol.
Specifically I’m interested in what and how of the following could be implemented by:
monitoring usage of CPU and RAM memory computer on which are ruteros and wifi routerboard,
monitoring traffic on a PPPoE connection,
monitoring of traffic by MAC address,
monitoring traffic on interfaces (internal and external traffic, separated if possible)
detection devices on the network
notification or alarm on changes
mapping unit
making reports
if possible backup network configuration
organizing groups of users…
Any experience, advice or tutorial, I could use?
in the WISP i was working we were using DUDE. you can download it from official mikrotik page under downloads.
Can you please write some more information on SNMP monitoring at your WISP?
I have installed The Dude on my standard PC workstation and it can ping them and open MT WinBox, but I can not collect any SNMP data.
To specify, I have problem reading data of my Router OS concentrator (x86, MT version 3.22) and routerborad based WiFi AP (RB411, MT 3.10)?
How can I check if SNMP on Mikrotik is working properly? In winbox on SNMP menu I have enabled SNMP in SNMP settings and entered email and location (my city) as requested. I have also created SNMP community named Atos, but I left IP address 0.0.0.0. Please write something that would help me solve the problem.
All I know about the set up is dude pinging routers and make them red color if ping fail. Dont know nothing more than that. Sorry mate.
