Yesterday I was dealing with an issue with one of my devices not getting a DHCP lease, I set up dhcp and firewall debug logs but the information I got was only that the Router is offering a DHCP lease but the device is not obtaining it. After upgrading ROS from 6.38.7 to 6.40 and then downgrading to 6.37 the issue persisted. It did not come to my mind that the HPE 1820 switch could be the fault, but no of the less I decided to do a factory reset, I ticked “No Default Configuration”, before that I created a backup and rsc file just in case. I plugged in the router, pressed the reset button and then hold it for about 40-50 seconds. After that I unplugged the power cord, plugged it in and the device was not detected either by winbox or netinstall. When the device is booted all the LEDS are blinking and it goes in a boot-loop. I saw that the device has unsoldered JTAG connectors, would that be a necessary step to bring the device back or I have not looked at other possibilities ?
The reset switch works both, when the router is plugged in and before I plug the power adapter in. I set up an IP address of 192.168.88.3 to my computer, PXE was set up to 192.168.88.2, Firewall and other network adapters were disabled. The only LEDs that were active was the PWR and ETH1. As I do not have access to serial port I am unable to see what is happening to the device when it boots.
When you say winbox doesn’t detect it, do you refer to Neighbors tab? Even with a laptop with its ethernet as only network active interface? (all the rest disabled)
I forgot to mention that I had protected RouterBoot enabled. I will check the saved backup copy, I had “protected-routerboot” enabled and it also has the entry for “reformat-hold-button” value. I’ll post the results if anything changes.
