SOLVED: L2TP IPSec VPN from WP8.1 to MikroTik NAT Router

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could post the /ppp, /ip IPsec and /ip firewall settings that work for a MikroTik router setup for basic cpe Nat, and a windows phone 8.1 client connecting to it via L2TP + IPsec VPN?

I followed a simple guide on a website previously, but I am unable to find it as I did not save it to my Favourites for reference - I just remember it took a few hours to find!

it was working previously, but upgrading and minor configuration changes, unrelated to the VPN server, IPsec and firewall have caused phase 1 timeout messages in the log when connecting.

I would like to scrap the VPN config and start from scratch. it has also stopped working on iPhone and my Surface 2, come to think of it. only the windows phone and iPhone can connect from the ‘internal’ network successfully.

I can post some config, but not just now as I am going to bed now - work in 3 hours!!!

Anyone have this working?

I managed to get this working from using a backup configuration to restore the settings.

The problem I had with my Nokia Lumia, was related to upgrading from WP8 to WP8.1. The Operator image had different Access Point settings: WP8 image used APN that assigned public IP and the WP8.1 image used APN that used carrier NAT. Creating a custom APN profile with the correct APN to have a public IP resolved the issue. VPN working :slight_smile:.
