[SOLVED] No ports for Huawei E173s-6

I’m trying to configure a connection using an RB751U-2HnD with an USB Huawei 3G card model E173s-6 (listed on the supported hardware list) the problem is that I don’t get any ports for it:

I have already changed the card’s mode and it is setup as modem only (no CD-ROM, no SSD), in fact I have tried all mode combinations

Router is fully updated to version 5.23

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Thank you very much

UPDATE Problem fixed on Router OS v6.0

Ok, tried again with another E173, this time with the E173u-6 and it worked immediately

Huawei model E173s-6 is NOT supported by Mikrotik at the moment of this writing (v5.23)

How do I inform the people behind the compatibility list about this?

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you. But I was hoping you could point me to the compatibility list which you’re referring to. I would like to purchase a 3G USB dongle which is compatible with the Mikrotik RB751U-2HND, and would like to be sure its compatible ahead of time.

Hi @ckwilcox, this is the list I was referring: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported_Hardware

Since I need many of this adapters ASAP I’ve been looking for them online and asking questions around about compatibility and then checking against the forum (this forum) as the list above is way too general, for example it lacks the details about the E173s-6 not working

So far I have found two providers who have devices for sale which are fully compatible, one of them was at Amazon but I have bought all the dongles left they had, they were some Huawei E220, since it is supported since version 3.x I supposed they must be fully compatible now (Yes, I’m praying for the them to work, more on this on arrival)

And then there’s this other option at eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlocked-Huawei-E173-HSDPA-7-2Mbps-GSM-3G-USB-Mobile-Broadband-Aircard-Modem-New-/400334921279?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

Their model is an E173u-2 as they have replied me, the only quirk I’ve found about this model is that you have to turn off the PIN on the SIM and they’ll work ok.

Hope this helps you

@zyxnull, thanks for your fast response. That information is extremely helpful.

I think I’ll try the E173u-2 from ebay for now.

Cheers.

UPDATE: Please note that since Router OS update v6.0 Huawei E173s-6 is in fact supported

ronniee: Have you tried updating your router OS?

even if mikrotik version 6 is already support huawei e173s-6 but still it can’t make an dial out

@zyxnull
have you success on using huawei e173s-6?

@hendracengala

Absolutely, it’s working great, please notice that at some point I saw somewhere that it is preferable to have PIN disabled on SIM

could you show me the ppp client general tab and ppp tab, thanks.

Sure!!

As a matter of fact I’m posting this using the very same card

Please make sure you’re using the right APN, a few days ago I was setting up another Mikrotik for a customer and all connections were dropped, after a couple hours of debugging I figured it out that the APN I was using for that specific ISP was not the one I needed
