SOLVED Question dealing with "master credentials" Hotspot

Solved it by making sure the access points did not have dhcp or nat running.
Thanks everyone!

I’ve search through pages and pages and pages of this forum looking for the problem I am dealing with but have so far not found anything like it. $10 to the paypal to whoever can help me plus karma.

I am setting up hotspot on RB 750 and have like 8 access points that will connect into it. I want the hotspot splash page to come up for everyone who tries to use the internet through the access points. The thing is I do not want to pre- assign them usernames and passwords, I want one general master one that everyone will have to input. So lets say timmy and jill both go to connect to the same access point as james and sue are using, they should receive the splash page and then be asked for the same username that james and sue are already using. So to clarify I do not want to charge anything to use the system I only want to keep everyone out who does not know the master username and password.

Problems so far:

I’ve made the hotspot and have attempted to use several different laptops to connect through the same access point. The only problem is once the first device logs in now all devices are logged in and none require a password any longer. I’ve experimented with different login types such as MAC, HTTP CHAP, etc. and of course it did not work out properly. So here I am looking for some assistance from some kind soul who could steer me into the right direction and i will reward them with paypal if this thing gets working.

Hoping someone can assist

Gordon

Hello,

It’s so easy.

The only problem is once the first device logs in now all devices are logged in and none require a password any longer

UNCHECK THE COOKIE OPTION IN IP/HOTSPOT/SERVER PROFILES/LOGIN (It’s checked by default)

OR configure the HTTP Cookie Lifetime as 01:00:00 instead of 3 days (Default) then, the users will not be claimed for a user password if they return to the hotspot in 1 hour, for example.. : P!

Configure shared users if isn’t yet as: shared-users=10 or 20 or whatever:

/ip hotspot user profile
set default idle-timeout=none keepalive-timeout=2m name=default shared-users=\
    5 status-autorefresh=1m transparent-proxy=no

Yes thank you

Interestingly I changed the settings in the access points to no nat and no dhcp and everything worked after that. Those are also excellent suggestions! It seems you beat me to closing this post as I solved it by re checking over some information that I had before.

I gave you one Karma point!
