[solved]RB411: Not working update from RouterOS v4.x to v6.x

I updated my rb411 from v3.x to v4.x. Everything worked.

Then I updated to v6.0rc13 and after rebooting, it would not connect.

Can anyone give me a hint about what to try next?

Thanks,

Don James

Did you upgrade it via Winbox or via Netinstall?

Reintal router wia netinstall http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall

It should work fine.

Can you “see” it in netinstall now?

I used Winbox for the update.

I can’t see it with Netinstall.

I used a null-modem cable, but can’t see the router.

What can I try next?

Thanks,

Same problem I used to face a lot with installing through winbox. :frowning:

NOW

Start Netinstall with your routerboard SHUTED DOWN - NO POWER at all.

PRESS the RESET button of your RB (RouterBoard) and KEEP it pressed.
POWER UP the RB while KEEP PRESSING the reset button.
DON’T LEAVE the reset button UNTIL Netinstall “sees” your RB.
If it doesn’t “see” it, RE-DO the same until it does.
AFTER it “sees” it, LEAVE the reset button.
Install the ROS once again via Netinstall.
After you SEE the finished intalation - REBOOT your RB.
When done, you will be able to “see” it with the winbox.

I connected the rb411 to my Windows 7 computer via a serial cable and now I can see the router via the serial cable.

I connected the rb411 to my laptop computer running Windows XP, ran Netinstall, but can’t see the router from Netinstall.

I clicked on the “Net Booting” button on Netinstall and entered an IP address of 192.168.1.2. I set my laptop ethernet adapter to 192.168.1.10.

What can I try next?

Thanks,

Don James

You’re doing OK with the IPs and the Laptop.

Now do EXACLY as I described above to “see” it in Netinstall.

Hi hipro5,

I was able to install the software using Netinstall, but there’s something wrong with the license key.

Can’t get it to accept the new key. Called the dealer where I bought the rb411 and he is going to get hold of Mikrotik and see if they can help.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Don James

It’s OK. They’ll find you a solution - don’t worry.

The dealer got the original key for my rb411 router and now it is working.

Problem solved.

Thanks for the help.

Don James
