Im new here, and havent used Mikrotik before.. so am finding it a little daunting selecting the correct equipment.
I have a WiSP, currently using pfSense firewall for Captive portal and bandwidth and traffic shaping.
I am going to install more towers soon to expand, and need a better setup. Tower equipment will be Ubiquiti, but what i am wanting is to have a mikrotik routerboard at each tower, and then a one main roterboard in my office. With this setup, i am hoping to use PPPoE for my clients antennas to connect to the network, and other clients without antenas can conect with laptop to open network, and get the captive portal to login (with DMA Radius Manager backend which i believe works with Mikrotik).
Can someone please tell me what routerboards i may need at each tower and then what i need in the main office? am i somehow able to have each tower handle their own pppoe logins and then connect to main tower for internet, or is it possoble for the routerboards at each tower to be like slaves and have main one in the office connected to Radius server to handle all logins?
Hi Luke,
equipment varies on many factors,
If you are interested on paid consultancy, I am willing to help you

Thanks for your reply Pawel. Paid support may definately be an option in the near future, but for now as my thread states, i am here on the forum to get some advice on hardware and how the setup i am hoping to do will work with Mikrotik before i go ahead with it.
Can anyone else give and help or ideas from personal experience?
How many ethernet port will you need ?
What throuput you are expecing going throu ?
Well my current towers each have a 4 port switch. Currently they each have 1 x AP and 1,2 or 4 PTP’s for Backhaul, currently using a mixture or Ruckus PTP’s and Ubiquiti PTP’s.. so getting between 150mbps tp 250mbps backhaul between towers.
No one here has any ideas?
I think from what i have read that the routerboard at each tower looks like i will need a level 4 or 5 license, and maybe a level 6 for the master in the office.. i just have no idea as far as what requirements each of those routerboard’s need. There are too many to choose from so need to know what others are using in similar setups.
Does Mikrotik work in that way? for example, small routerboard at each tower handling user logins and all that by talking back to the master routerboard which is connected to RADIUS server and Backbone? Can i do caching at each tower and in the main office?
How many throughtput you expect at each tower ?
How many PPPoE sessions do you expect at each tower ?
PC
Well hoping for around 200-300 PPPoE sessions at each tower.
Throughput i would hope to be getting at least 150mbps out to each tower. Currently i have my towers connected with Ruckus ZF7731 PTP’s which are giving me about a 200mb throughput.
