Hi
…and thanks in advance to any answers.
I have just been given a project to setup a wireless point to point bridge using 2 x SXT 5HnD units. I am new to Mikrotik - in fact so new I have only had a look at RouterOS on my laptop - The units in question will arrive in a couple of weeks.
Topology :- 2 VLANS, the first is VLAN10 with IP of 192.168.1.0/24. The second is VLAN20 with IP of 192.168.2.0/24. The wireless bridge will need to allow traffic for both VLANS to move through the bridge as clients devices for both VLANS are on both sides of the bridge.
I’ve been reading up and have successfully managed to confuse myself so I have a couple of questions.
- There are 3 different ways I have seen mentioning a setup such as this. You can use one of the following - WDS, VPLS, and NV2 - does this sound correct? Or is it a mixture?
- VLAN20 will carry VOIP traffic - if the three above are correct what will give me the fastest throughput across the bridge for both VLANS?
Again, thanks for any assistance
Cheers
Marc
WDS, VPLS and NV2 cover 3 different areas.
WDS is part of the 802.11 standards. Due to implementation differences equipment from different manufacturers does always interwork correctly in WDS mode. See:

VPLS is part of the MPLS/VPLS world - great technology but probably unnecessary for a simple P2P bridge.
NV2 is a Mikrotik alternative to the 802.11 wireless format. See:

Thank you for your reply CelticComms.
Going by your response I should be looking at either a WDS or NV2 setup. That leaves me with 2 more questions:
- Which is the more reliable of the 2
- Which will give me a faster link and a wild guess of by how much faster (I won’t hold you too it
)
Cheers

You want want to simply try the Quickset feature on your first P2P pairing. It gives you Mikrotik’s suggested config for each end with almost no effort - and you can tweak from there to meet your needs.
Will give that a go - thanks for your help, much appreciated.
could you please post your update on this…
