SONAR - anybody using SONAR in an ISP Mikrotik network?

Question: SONAR - anybody using SONAR Version 1 or Version 2 in an ISP Mikrotik network?

Note: SONAR is set of programs an ISP would use for Billing & bandwidth management & customer management & inventory

If you are using SONAR , I would like to ask you a couple of questions:

  • Do you have your SONAR managing IPv6 ( with IPv4 ) to/for your customers?
  • Do your In-Line Devices use a Mikrotik for bandwidth management ?

I am trying to figure out how to implement IPv6 into SONAR using all Mikrotik devices.

Yes to both, and we have been delivering dual stack to all customers since 2017. We just upgraded to Sonar v2 less than two months ago. However, our solution may not work great for everyone, as we use PPPoE, and a lot of ISPs do not.

I am one of those ISPs that does not use PPPoE.
I am running SONAR v1. Not sure about going to v2 at this time.
How much of a pain was it to go from v1 to v2 ?
Did you have to reconfigure any Mikrotiks in your NOC when you made the jump to v2 ?
For me , v1 with Mikrotik In-Line Devices and Mikrotik DHCP servers , the SONAR works flawlessly but v1 does not support IPv6.
I even have SONAR v1 working with Live IP customers and NAT444 customers ( fiber GPON and wireless Mikrotik clients ) ( thousand+ on fiber and thousand+ on wireless ).

Re your SONAR v2 with a Mikrotik network ,would you do it again ?

It wasn’t much of a pain for us to go to v2. The only reconfigurations we had to do were to do with things like switching a few inline devices to the SSL-API.

Some re-learning is required as the interface is different, a bit more complicated, and sometimes it isn’t obvious what things do or where they moved. Part of it I’m sure is just due to it being different.

PPPoE was the only way to do IPv6 with Sonar v1. I understand with v2 there are more options, as you say.
