speed and disconnection problems with ptp link of 300 mtrs

hello guys,

i have setup a ptp bridge using MPLS on a RB711-5Hn pair of boards with 18dBi antenna each. distance is 300 meters.

i am facing problems like:

  1. signal in -77 at both ends even though antenna’s aligned perfectly.
  2. frequent disconnection of station from bridge and reconnection again
  3. machine to machine data copy speeds not above 1MBPS

just fed up how to get this thing working really fast… please help…

does high power for short distance cause disconnections?? pretty wierd…

i am boosting the power to compensate for the antenna loss… as the antennas in india which are local made are not to the quality the radio power helps overcome the losses to some extent.

why is the disconnection so much?? i am really worried :frowning:

cheap antennas also may have bad VSWR. In short, your own radio’s power will come back on itself, interfere and eventually likely cause the radio to fail.

You can’t fix bad equipment with more power. I wish you could.

Lowering the tx power may help, whether this is the case or not. It won’t hurt to try.

clear los… that’s what has put me wondering…

-77dBm at 300m with 18db antenna and tx-power=17 is extremely low.
I have -53dBm at 100m with SXT(16dB antenna) and tx-power=3 with 100%ccq and no problems.
So maybe pigtails problem or most probably antennas are bad engeneered and you are out of their actual band (not what is written on them), as you say

…so try other antennas.

The problem is the bad signal level.
This can depend on

Wifi-Modul (eg Used without connected Antenna)
Pigtail
Cable (quality and length)
Cable-Connections (if you have done this by yourself)
Lightning protection if Used
Antennas
