Squid 2.6

Mikrotik 2.9.38 seems to run squid/2.5.STABLE11. The latest Squid stable is squid-2.6.STABLE6. Could we get Squid updated? The new Mikrotik proxy cache seems to run out of RAM under heavy use and slow down or reboot the router.

Will Squid be in Mikrotik 3.x? What are the pro’s and con’s of Mikrotik Cache vs. Squid?

Matt

thats right MT cache is slow compared with squid .. i tested it and back to squid ..

I think (but only guess) v3 would have latest.

MT cache, fast easy to config, can rum on MT box

2.6 will need separate box but you have full control (can use huge raid drives)

I use separate box, if it crash (it don’t) can easy bypass.
If ros box crash you whole network will go down (perhaps)

I am also looking for a high eficient web-proxy. I’d like to see MK supporting multiples hard disks and a lot of RAM memory. I’ve tested squid with RAID and without RAID with multiples hard disks, using separates disks the result was better. Diskd has better performance but my squid sometimes was freezing for some seconds on high load. I want MK perfect proxy solution

How is MK proxy today?

better use router as router & cache as cache…MK is working well with roter functionality…i would recond them to concentrate on routing…let squid ppl do the squid work

Ahmen! If it was up to me, I’d drop web-proxy and the associated proxy packages completely…

newest RouterOS don’t use squid in proxy AT ALL.

good news…
is it just squid is replaced with some other proxy or PROXY thing is totally elliminated??

neither. We wrote our own.
