I upgraded an old smart bridges AP with an MT RB500 and sr2 card.
The problem is that after doing this only about 5 of my 20 clients reconnected and even the ones that did were performing poorly. I tested the configuration with the same units I use for my clients and it seemes to be all OK indoors. After replacing unit on the mast it seemed to be pumping out enough signal but all the clients that did connect were slow to access. The smart bridges unit would be OK with the same antenna and channel etc. I was hoping that the sr2 woul dbe an improvement thats why I bought it?
I did check and try just about all possible config adjustments so I know it’s not that and it was working fine indoors with same clients so I can’t see why it’s such a problem?
I did not have time really to give full tests. This was a fairly busy AP and I realised it was weird when some clients only connected on channel 4 when normally I opperate on 6 and no clients would connect on 6. I did look into the web interfaces of a couple of clients that did connect and the data transfer was definatly slow and of course most did not reconnect. I know that sometimes they would need a reboot and probably would have given this a go had it not seemed so slow on the clients I did test.
The SR2 is a fine card. We have 3 AP’s up and running smoothly. They are much better than the others we tested. I am curious - you said it worked fine indoors, but not when you took it outside - maybe a cabling issue between the AP and antenna?
Don’t forget it’s a direct replacement of an existing AP in service. The cable and antenna is fine with an AP of considerably lower spec? That is why i’m suprised hence my sarcastic remarks! I guess the pigtailcould be bad. I will have to try that but I did do indoor tests through several walls and objects to test the transmission power and it seemed good indoors!
Just out of interest have you upgraded to an sr2 from other equipment or did you start with it? Maybe there is always issues when swapping to a different hardware altogether? Do you think I should leave it in for a while and let it settle down?
I knew it was a replacement - I also have seen the LMR cables get destroyed when they are taken loose and moved to another N connector. Pigtails can also be a nightmare. Yeah I hate upgrading busy networks - the customers get all kind of pissed off when everything goes south!!
