SR5 "Bridge-Station" Link problems

I have 2 SR5’s that are as follows. I SR5 is set up as “Bridge” the other is set up as “Station” and they refuse to connect. On another system, I am runinng 2 CM9’s on Bridge-Station and all works fine. What is weird is that if I put the “Station” unit in Align mode it comes back with all the correct information and a signal of -58. But when I put the Station in “Scan” mode it doesnt see the SR5 but it see the CM9 on the other system a few miles away. I am running 2.8.26 with another mfg board.

Try bridge on both sides.

Ok… I tried it. I can see both units when I do “Align” but I dont see them when I do “Scan” Is there something different with these cards that I can do a Bridge-Station on CM9 but not SR5?

usually how this is setup is by enabled WDS, setting both AP and SU to Bridge mode, adding the ether1 and wlan1 devices to bridge1 and also make sure the SSID’s and frequencies match.

there’s a sample config in the mikrotik documents on creating a WDS bridge.

Why I’ve to enable WDS?
I think this is a negotiation error or bad management of SR5!
WDS or not, ap-bridge and station in other side now don’t work
idem for bridge mode in both side.
My SSID’s and frequency match but return only “assoc timeout”
Tomorrow switch to CM9.
Regards

Well after several hours I got mine worked out. It was the frequency setting. I would work on some freq but not the others. Who would have guessed it.
Thanks
Mike

So in your opinion the SR5 is ok and usable?

I see so many posts praising CM9s, and many posts about instability and various problems with SR5 ?

Maybe it is SR5 is higher powered and mini-PCI can’t cope … or it is just new and not so well tested..

We have relatively short links with a max of 2-3 miles so we don’t really need the power of SR5 - and CM9 does all we need - unless you can suggest differently..

???

Currently I have the SR5 running in a <18 mile link using 29db dishes. Link signal is showing -65 and 54meg connection. I am getting ready to put in a 24 mile link. Has anything been done with Nstream and 5.8 ghz. I would like to put in a dual dish using one for sending and the other for receiving.

Montana - so you are happy with SR5?

Looks like it..

Yep, you bet. SR5 is rocking. Only time will tell if these cards will work. I am using them in a production enviroment. I just wished that someone had not fell asleep on the RB design. I think that we now have a good card but not a RB that can handel the power requirements or PCI adapters except RB11. I sure hope that changes and SOON.

Montana,
plzz how are you using the SR5s, are they INDOORS in a routerboard; directly in regular PC thru adapters, or outdoors near the antennas. if outdoors, whats your cable length from radio to antenna nd if indoors, whats cable length also, cos i’m having problem with mine. i’ll really appreciate any info. THANKS A LOT.

Well mine are outdoors. They are in a wrap board with outdoor enclosure. cable length is 3 feet using LMR-400 cable with N connectors.

We have been using SR5’s since they came out - over a year now. We haven’t replaced one of them. They are very stable - and don’t have troubles with the extreme temps we see here. We have links that range from 1 mile to over 10 miles. Awesome stuff!!!
