I have an Untangle appliance at the main office, running their IPSec app.
I have four remote sites, two running older SonicWall devices and two running Mikrotik RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN units.
The SonicWall connections are solid, no problems with any devices attached behind them.
The first RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN connection is solid. It is running 6.42.1 and is connected to a cable modem and has a static IP.
The second RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN unit is running 6.42.6 and is connected to a CenturyLink DSL Actiontec C1000A running in bridge mode, with the MikroTik running the PPPoE client.
And it is this unit that is giving me fits. It is a new install. The remote offices access a Red Hat Enterprise Linux machine via ssh over the IPsec VPN. And this office has pregnant pauses and hangs while running ssh. The problem is somewhat intermittent. For example, the young lady in this particular small office was able to run correctly for nearly an hour this afternoon, but then started experiencing problems again.
The only difference I can figure, is that Actiontec modem running in bridge mode and having to run PPPoE on the MikroTik. All the other sites are running cable modems with static IP’s set on the WAN port of the router.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Am I barking-up the right tree on the MTU? I’d have thought that if the MTU was the problem, the issue would be far more consistent.
