I’m running RouterOS 2.8.21. I can connect perfectly fine with telnet, winbox, etc…
SSH used to work as well, but suddenly started failing with:
“ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host”
I’ve only seen this error on a regular linux server with openssh, in which case it was a fault of tcpwrappers misconfiguration. If you search around, you’ll find it’s a common scenario.
I’ve tried quite a few things to get it working, including disabling/enabling the service in /ip services, and trying various configuration settings under that as well; different ssh clients from different sources; DNS settings on both client and routeros; and a few other late-night things i can’t recall.
If anyone has seen this before on RouterOS, or knows a way to dig deeper into the SSH configs, I’d appreciate it.
