SSID Problem

Hello!
I have a Mikrotik SXT Lite5 as a station. Today, I was configuring the interface when I arrived in the SSID field. There, I put the SSID of the AP where I want to connect, but when I click to “Apply” appears this error: “Couldn’t change Interface - ssid too long (6)”
I have deleted some characters and I found that the max number is 32, and the SSID that I want to connect has 34 characters.
The SSID is: guifi.net-Ripoll-Catllar-RemeiAp5g
How can i solve it?
Thank you!

The 32-character limit is defined in the 802.11 standard.
Your AP does not comply to that limit. You should change the SSID.

Why would you even want an SSID that long anyway?

Don’t say security… that’s overkill.

It’s probably simple: guifi.net is the company website address, so the customers in range can check it out and request services. Ripoll-Catllar-Remei are probably the places, which are in range, or the place where the AP is located. Probably to make it easier to connect new customesr for the radio technicians.

It is what jacekes says. guifi.net is the company Ripoll-Catllar-Remei the place where the AP is an AP5G means Access Point 5ghz. It’s obviously that I can’t change the SSID, but what I found quite curios is that there are two persons who are connected to this AP with also a SXT Lite5.
What should I do?
Thank you!

Hmmm… I’d try the same software version as on the connected ones.

What versions do you use?

I’m using the last version (6.24). I ask to the administrator of the AP and he said me that the version that the others use is 6.16 and 6.18. I have also tested those ones and the result is the same.
Thank you for the help!

You mean it connected on the older version or not?

Sorry if I haven’t explainde well, english isn’t my usual language.
I will try again:
I have tested versions 6.24 6.18 6.16 and 5.26 in my antenna and I have the same too long SSID error. There are only two more persons connected and they have also a SXT Lite5 and the version 6.16 one and 6.18 the other.
I hope you understand me

SSID max length is 32 characters - it is not possible to make it longer.

Yes, now I get it.

After what Uldis had written I really wonder how those other two manage to connect.

Ok, thank you everybody. After your comments I have decided to speak to the AP administrator if it is possible to change the SSID.
Thank you!

It shouldn’t work since it’s outside the standard but considering that there are other users connected I would suggest instead of typing the SSID go to the scan list on the wireless interface. Search for the ssid and click connect. Let’s see if the mkt does some sort of truncate and allows you to connect.

Hi ngnr, I’ve tried that, but the AP doesn’t appear in the list. I suppose that happens due to the length of the SSID.
Thanks.

Hello, I’m still having the problem. I’ve spoken with the neighbor and the administrator, they don’t know what to do, but they are connected… Here you can see more information: http://guifi.net/en/node/74939
Thank you!

Export the configuration from your neighbor’s CPE and compare it with yours.

I’ve tried that but at the moment it’s an impossible solution. He doesn’t know the password and the administrator has forgoten it. So it’s not an option…
Thanks!
