Start wisp 5000 customer network design

Hello
Can any body help meto give suggestions for wips network design using mikrotik omni tik and sxt lite 5,
And also give suggestions for IP pools for my ap and CPE devices
I’m going to start wisp at city lavel around 5000 customer base.

Thaks

Do not use omnis as AP.

Use sector antennas, like SXT-SA (http://routerboard.com/RBSXTG-5HPnD-SAr2 or http://routerboard.com/RBSXTG-5HPacD-SA) or mANTBox (http://routerboard.com/RB921GS-5HPacD-15S or http://routerboard.com/RB921GS-5HPacD-19S).

SXT 5 Lite or SXT 5 Lite ac are great as CPE devices.

For far customers, LGH-5 is a good alternative while keeping down costs: http://routerboard.com/RBLHG-5nD

Can you explain me why omnitik is not used as ap?
How can I create faster and simpler network with mikrotik switch.

Omnitik uses Omni antenna, which is the worst option for an overall even signal level and highest SNR possible when connecting clients, as it will catch all the neighbouring signals.

Sector antenas provide better gain, focused on a limited sector. For a sector radio to perform optimally and scale well, you should group clients with similar signal and CCQ levels on the same sectors.

i m planing to implement wireless network in 60-70 km,city level,i m thinking about every 3-4 km 1 omnitik install and every omnitik connect 20-25 client.

You should hire an engineer who has lots of experience with this sort of thing.

I’ve seen several people get into this business without the technical expertise in-house. All have failed, and it wasn’t for lack of effort or willingness to learn. It’s just that by the time they gained enough experience, their product had been shaky and sub-standard and their reputation was very bad, so they couldn’t keep customers or get any new ones.

You’re starting your project by saying “I want to do this, but want the forum community to design my network for me, free of charge” and you want to put 5000 customers on wireless? That’s very likely to fail or at best work very poorly. There are many many MANY challenges to this, across several specializations of expertise, including RF engineering, network design, IP routing, AAA, accounting, customer support, etc.

Many people think that deploying a WISP is just as easy as putting up some antennas and then going shopping for sports cars. Wireless is a very strange beast and the environment is changing constantly. Channels that were free and clear yesterday can be heavily interfered with tomorrow. Bushes and trees grow into the signal path, lightning strikes blow up an entire tower site’s equipment, etc.

Omnidirectional antennas are (as Pukkita has already pointed out) not ideal for a tower/rooftop design because their power is spread over a full 360 degree area (giving you lower range), and they’re listening to a full 360 degree area (more chance for interference), and not only that - if you pack lots of endpoints onto a single radio, then you get capacity issues - i.e. you can’t have as much customer density with omnis as you can with sectors.

If you want to go with omnis and cover a whole metropolitan area, then you need to install LOTS of them at lower power settings and get good coverage that way. We blanketed a small arts&crafts downtown community (just 20 or 30 city blocks) and it took dozens of devices to do so - and this was just for casual “here have some Internet while you walk around looking at local artists’ work” access - not paying customers.

I’m not saying all of this to discourage you or tell you not to move with your business plan - I’m just saying that if you want to succeed on the scale you’re talking about, you should have someone in your organization who already knows as much as the forums community does, or else you’re going to have a rough time delivering a product that’s good enough to keep your customers happy.

Thank-you for response.
I have tech support staff and that already tell me about RF problem.but thay tell me if we install every omni far 3-4 km ech other than we dant have any problems. Bcoz there is olts off buildings.

My small network already running on sector antenna base station. Having 500-600 customer.in this network I have installed omni tik and it’s too good for 3-4 km area coverage.

Thank-you for giving your valuable time.

I’m here for getting yours suggestions to make me batter.

@dkparmar
Can you help me with the same I am also planning for this kind of network OmniTIK U-5HnD for each 3km radius.
Do you think this will work comfortably???
Can I have your contact details so that I can get personal opinion from you…???

@dkparmar92 / @ankwithank: let me put it in another way: It may seem that using omnis you will be saving money, but actually, you won’t, in the mid and long term.

Proper design will optimize your investment and you will be actually saving money, maximizing profits, and shortening your ROI times.

Yes you can contact me by email my id is dk.parmar92@gmail.com

I’m start wisp with both device omni antena and sector.I have to experiment.

Thanx Zerobyte for clearing doubts of newcomers. I totally agree with your suggestion.

And don’t bridge the entire network.

Routing and ospf/mpls is a must if you are planning to connect 5K customers

THIS!

There’s a certain NSP in my region that has the entire region bridged. One time, nearly the entire thing was brought to its knees because a technician plugged a fiber into the wrong port for a looping test. They literally had to shut down core trunks just to eliminate possibilities for which way the broadcast storms and reflected packets were coming from.
