In an effort to start from scratch i’d like all your help to assist me in getting the server done with a new configuration.

first things first:

My currentt setup is a basic satellite feed from Bentley Walker to a building here in Baghdad/Iraq.

The speed I am currently getting is 512kbps down and 256kbps up.

I have about 10+ users that i’d like to share with.

I would like to have Web Surfing and IM chatting given the highest priority for the bandwith.

I want to format from scratch … my question here is when i do so what should i do so my key will still work?

in my server i have 512megs of ram, 40 gig hd and a 1.7gig celeron processor.

the network cards are:

Via Rhine III chipset
SMC1255TX/SMC1255TX-PF (DEC Tulip chipset I believe)

which card should i use for the internet coming IN from the satellite connected to the linkstar modem? VIA or SMC?

I do not want to use ANY hotspot or pppoe or anything.

I just want to be able to use RouterOS to router traffic and share the bandwith amonst users evenly.

cache dns

any help is greatly appreciated.

At first, do you have only one public IP address from your ISP and will go for masquerade (users have local IP addresses) or you have a free IP pool of public addresses?

Regarding network cards, IMHO it does not matter which one will you use for Internet/Your LAN… Even old 10Mbit cards will do the work

Right. Do you have any quick steps for me to follow in regards to setting up the proxy.

I noticed theres a IP → Proxy and IP → Web Proxy

I enabled both and they both arent working?

“/system reset” will allow you to start from scratch without losing the license.
