when I create a station bridge or pseudobridge and bridge it with an ethernet adapter for some reason only one device get ip and proper traffic behind it.
if for example I add a dhcp-client on that bridge and I get an IP then the device on the ethernet interface does not get an IP… or if I add more than one devices on the ehternet(2) only 1 gets ip and proper traffic.
If I change that to wds bridge it works fine!
The problem is that if in some(most) cases I use capsman I need to remove the wds (source) from the cap and set it up as a wds wlan in order for the wds (client) to connect since capsman doesn’t support wds as far as I am aware of
Any ideas?
What you described is indeed how station-pseudobridge works. These limitations are fundamental for the underlying wireless protocol stack. The station-bridge mode, on the other hand, should not have such limitations, however it only work when AP also runs Mikrotik RouterOS, and is not compatible with CAPsMAN. AFAIK, there is currently no way to do what you want to do with CAPsMAN.
Read more about Wireless Station Modes here: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wireless_Station_Modes
it makes more sense now,
should we expect any bridging feature by capsman any time soon?
Mikrotik guys you could announce it in the MUM in Greece in 2 weeks…
See you there
Station bridge should work perfectly…! Something is wrong in your configuration…
@Zacharias, station-bridge does not work with CAPsMAN controlled APs, that’s the main problem OP is facing here.
@genesispro, When the CAPsMAN was first introduced several years ago, I do remember multiple people asking about support of WDS, station-bridge, etc. here on the forum. If I understood the answers correctly, Mikrotik did not see much value in adding such features to CAPsMAN, and I doubt anything has changed in this regard since.
I know it does not work with capsman.. simply i didnt see that in the initial post…
Indeed station bridge is not connecting to capsman controlled ap.
It wasn’t clear.
Although it is pitty having to remove cap from an AP just to enable wireless bridging in a 4-5+ APs setup.
Zacharia your name sound Greek, will I see you in the MUM?
You can only use station mode for capsman…
Genesispro my name indeed is Greek.. Wish i could make it to Athens, unfortunatelly i won’t be able to attend the meeting
