You can look around on the wiki for an example that is close to what you want.

first you should determine what you want to achieve with your new device. is it going to be a wireless client, providing your home with ethernet internet? is it going to be a home AP connected to a ADSL modem? is it going to be used for a point-point wireless link between offices?
