storage issues?

Hi

For the second time I am encountering this situation. Mikrotik (ac2) working flawlessly for a while. No logins for a while. And then suddenly password isn’t working for two users of three including admin. With the help of third user I am resetting unhealthy passwords but after first reboot everything back and I need to reset it again. And again. And again. Moreover backups that was scripted to be done every night are not restoring and more than two years of backups gone to hell. Only netinstall helping to fix this issue.

I am thinking that there is some kind of internal flash storage corruption

Any idea what the hell it could be and how to fix it?

Maybe your router is insecure and compromised. “admin” is not a secure login and should be removed right after turning on your device and before letting it to Internet. My advice would be:

  1. Inspect your config (maybe with help of a professional) for vulnerabilities or if it’s compromised now. Check logs for odd things.
  2. Store your backups outside of router (USB stick/attach ROSE-storage/push to some personal cloud)
  3. For storage corruption check if you have bad blocks in /sys/resource

And

  1. check that device’s storage is not full. 16MB is tight for contemporary ROS versions on ATM architecture … and you really want to have at least few hundreds of kB free at all times.
