STP using 3 routerboard 532 units + 1 wireless link

We’ve recently purchased 6 routerboard 532 units, which are great btw!

I’m trying to setup a failover connection, and I’m not having much luck.
Does failover STP only work with a physical cat5 connection maybe?

Here’s how I have things setup for testing purposes …

I have 3 routerboards, named A, B and C.
All ports on all 3 routers are bridged with STP turned on.

A is connected to B with a crossover, B to C with a crossover,
but C is connected to A with a wireless link (AP+SU setup)

My test laptop is hooked up to board A, while another test unit
is connected to board C. I can ping C from A when the link between
A and B, or B and C is broken, but once I close the loop I get a
loopback and C goes down, and I see lots of loopback activity.
For some reason STP seems not to kick in and all ports stay active.

  • This test works when the wireless link is replaced with cat5 connection.

Any ideas, advice or help?

Thank You,
Martin

Did you setup the STP priorities or did you just enable STP? You have to lower the priority for the root bridge.
