strange behaveour

Hi all…

Our dude runs on XP for years with no problem. We did upgrade from prev version untill last version.

Withing last month, we install XP SP2 into it and suddenly we got strange behaveour.
All ssh, telnet, http, smtp, pop3, radius services become unrecognized.

I means.. our routers and or servers mostly having ssh, telnet and http services. Only some servers that having smtp, pop3 and radius services.

Those above services were will recognized and gave us the reports when it was down and or recover.

But now.. after we install XP SP2, none of all the above services can be recognized.

What are the problem sources ? is it from XP ?

Cheers

Paul

Do you have the latest Dude version installed (3.3) ?

A new feature in Service Pack 2 of Windows XP was Windows Firewall…

Service Pack 2 also added new security enhancements, which included a major revision to the included firewall that was renamed to Windows Firewall and is enabled by default

Sorry for late reply,

The dude server is always upgrade to the lastest version. Currently it run V3.4 since June 2nd.

and yes, default firewall setting on XP SP2 is enable but I already disable it.

Any clues ?

Sorry I don’t know where to start, has the networking changed? Can you ping and trace route to a broken device?

To quickly get an idea if it is just something with the dude or with routing you should try to open a web page from the dude to a router. If that works then the dude is broken if it doesn’t check other services from the dude to devices manually to determine the trouble.

Basically determine if the dude is broken… If the dude is broken, Backup the data folder from the dude (c:/program files/dude/data) and make a backup copy of the entire dude folder. Just so you can quickly put it back if you want to.

Uninstall/reinstall the dude and put the data folder back in place before restarting the service.

Nothing changes on the network structure; all stay the same.

the mention services just stop recognised since sp2 installed while we still can open the status of each devices with normal browser.

I also try to open all the routers status using IE on dude box and it successed; but dude said down.

Also, already made yr suggestion to backup all data, reformat and doing xp fresh installation, reinstall dude and reload data. But the same problem persist as soon as we install xp sp2 even if with firewall disable.

Ok only have a couple of ideas, this is like hunting in the dark without a magnet.

I suppose you upgraded the network card driver? Can you swap network cards?

Sometimes M$ has a patch for something that they don’t make part of their main downloads. Go to windows update and select custom updates, Install what ever you can find that might relate to the issue.

Have you tried switching from a service to a non service?

Check out which network card services are running some virus scan software place a firewall in the stack. Where tcpip is… maybe disable ipv6.

Upgrade to service pack 3?

Obviously I am just making some ideas that I would try. Hope you get it working! Let us know what you find out.

Not only network card…

We setup the new dude on the new IBM machine, still with XP SP2 and the same problem still happend.
Tried already service and non service, no differents
