I found out that I cannot connect to Mikrotik AP on any wireless int4erface. MT works as multiple AP device with three wireless interfaces in AP mode.
Until recently, I was able to connect to any of them using my laptop wireless. But now, I cannot connect on any of them. Log shows that client disconnected.
At the same time, other clients connect fine, with no problem. I guess problem is in my laptop wireless, but I cannot what causes this to happen:

I tried the same laptop wireless interface on one Ovislink factory AP bridge. It conncts just fine. It seems for some reason it won’t connect to Mikrotik.
Is that a broadcom chipset in your laptop ?
If yes, i had a similar problem. Don’t really know what caused it. Had rb333 in my home, with 2 interfaces, and on 2.4 could not connect with one of the laptops. The broadcom… The other one, with intelw2200bg worked just fine.
I solved it by /system reset and reconfiguring all the interfaces once again. ( yes, i know i could have just reset the wireless interface.)
Wifi interface in my laptop is Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. It worked fine, even better than fine until recently when I noticed it cannot connect to Mikrotik. I will try to reinstall drivers.
Reinstalled wireless interface drivers on laptop, but it stil cannot conenctu with the same error. I een tried to connect to other MT node, I got the same error. It seems my laptop is now unable to connect to any Mikrotik.
Not long ago it was able to conect with no problem.
To check that fire up a knoppix and see what works, or better, install some usb or pcmcia or express wireless card and check from there.
Although it’s getting off-topic for MT…
I despise Broadcom wireless chipsets for this reason.
Didn’t have a problem with them until a few years ago, then it seemed every laptop that came through the hotels I supported had a new, crappy Broadcom. When a Broadcom mini PCI can’t talk to a Broadcom based AP, something is seriously wrong, and that happens quite frequently.
Yes indeed.
For clients with laptop, no or poor wireless i use Senao pcmcia or d-ling ag660. Kind of expensive, but works like a dream.
And also there are lots of usb wireless with external connector for antenna…
( for the original topic… Pedja get a wireless with atheros, usb, will be useful for site surveys with your laptop, too.)
Let me clarify: this card I have in laptop works very nice including NetStumbler.
It also worked fine with MT until recently when I found out that I cannot connect to MT (and MT only).
This card does not work with that mt box, and that only, or with any other MT you own ?
Do a system backup, and save it, and do a fresh install on that specific router, put some ssid with no encription and see if that works.
If it does not, and you are using windows xp, do go in “change the order of preffered networks” in wzcfg and delete the entry for the specific ssid you are encountering problems. Or, better, delete all. you should know the settings.
And, with another card in the same laptop, can you connect ?
(Also, did you managed to connect with a live linux distribution ? eg. knoppix, or ubuntu ?)
When it happened to me, i reinstalled the router, a clean install, to be shure. And now it works.
This laptop wifi card won’t connect to any MT i tried. It did connect until recently. It connects fine to cheap factory made APs.
Yes I tried everything, including reinstalling drivers, but nothing changed. I also have USB wifi adapter and it works fine, I mean, it connects to MTs.
Ther is just one more thing I can try - to reinstall windows on my laptopo, but that would have to wait until I have enough time, as my lapotpo is used for my job so I have to deal with lots of backuping.
