strange password issue

Hi dears,

with LHG 5 AC XL running ROS 6.45.x i have a strange problem;

if i try to login via mac-telnet from another mikrotik device i receive “bad username or password”,
if i try to login via winbox using the mac address i receive “bad username or password”,
if i try to login via winbox using the ip address of the device i successfully login (obviously using the same credentials of the other attempts)

it’s a very strange issue and i can’t figure it out…may be it’s a bug in the ROS

Make sure you’re using latest version of winbox. When using mac-telnet from another mikrotik device, ROS version on the other device has to be recent as well.

Reason: password handling changed on ROS versions between 6.41 and 6.43 … and older clients are not compatible with new server software.

It’s not a very helpful error message, however in my case the Winbox “bad username or password” was definitely due to the Winbox version being old.
