Strange Switched Port issue

I have a RB2011UiAS-RM ROS6.4 that shows strange issues when using a group of ports configured as a switch which then connects to VMware ESXi 4.1

ether3 is a WAN connection with ip .2/24 with .1 the next hop

ether4 has a server IMM at .11

ether5 has an ESX server with vmk (.:sunglasses: and guests (.10, .12)

The esx vmk is fine, but guests - tried Win7 and ROS 6.4, cannot connect past the Routerboard switch, i.e. cannot ping .1

It seems if multiple devices are on a port, after the first one they have issues.

There is a static route to the network past the gateway, but I can’t even get to the gateway.
There are no firewall rules.

Any ideas where to start ?

The switch configuration

/interface ethernet
set 0 disabled=yes name=ether1-POE
set 1 name=ether2-WANsw
set 2 disabled=yes name=ether3-LAN
set 3 name=ether4-WANsw master-port=ether2-WANsw
set 4 name=ether5-WANsw master-port=ether2-WANsw
set 5 disabled=yes name=ether6-BRIDGE1
set 6 disabled=yes name=ether7-BRIDGE2
set 8 master-port=ether8-SWITCH name=ether9-SWITCH
set 9 master-port=ether8-SWITCH name=ether10-SWITCH poe-out=off
set 10 disabled=yes
