Strange wireless interface problem

Greetings everybody,

yesterday I’ve noticed a strange problem with one of my XR5 wireless interfaces and I’m desperately trying to solve it since. Clients keep dropping and reassociating over and over again, sometimes they don’t even last 5 seconds of being connected. All of them are disconnecting with messages ‘data from unknown device’ and ‘extensive data loss’. Signals and SNR while they are connected show very fine results of 50-60 or so. CCQ shows very low numbers, and P Throughput doesn’t even reach 800kbps.

All this might happen due to lots of different reasons, but the strange part is that when I do ‘Reset Configuration’ of that interface in winbox, and reconfigure it again, everything comes back to normal for a while: CCQ becomes >70%, P Throughput on all clients indicates almost 30mbps which I’m happy with. Sadly it lasts only for around 5 to 10 minutes and it starts all over.

I don’t really understand how this ‘temporary fix’ could be made only by reconfiguring the interface and why everything blows up after 5 minutes. Has anybody experienced anything similar? Any thoughts?

Next thing I’m going to do is to try swapping that XR5 with a replacement card and see if it helps..

Hi,

did you tried to change the channel?

Yes, I did. I also tried to enable adaptive noise immunity, tried to play around with TX power settings and so on. I also don’t use NStreme, although all the clients connected to this AP are mikrotiks (routerboards with routeros)..

What type of antennas?

17db sector antenna on AP and 23db panels at client side. But I really don’t see how this has anything to do with antennas since ‘reset configuration’ helps for a limited amount of time, and it’s no coincidence, I can do it as many times I want, it always helps for 5-10 minutes.

I am having the same issue. I have played with everything: TxPower, HW Retries, Frame Lifetime, Data Rates Supported, etc., etc. My clients continuously associate, disassociate, reassociate, and so on. I also receive hundreds of “data from unkown device; sent deauth” log entries per second for the same device. And this only affects just a few devices connected to the AP, not all of them. I have two clients almost right next to each other (location-wise) and it only happens to one of them.

Thanks for any help provided.

Jeff

I don’t actually know how I managed to get my problem away. I think next morning it was gone by itself. I have changed few XR5’s in that place since. It might have been some random bugs of that card or something..
Also I do believe such odd behavior might be caused by bad (or some particular) weather conditions, because I’ve experienced similar problem recently, this time with 2.4GHz band. I did almost nothing new trying to fix it apart from rebooting, reconfiguring and playing with some settings. The problem was gone next day. So there are some unexplained phenomena or some explainable reason, in which case I’m not competent

Hi We have the same problem except we are using a wireless bridge bewtween 2 hotels. using rb411 boards
we have 5 vlan interfaces running over the link and one side of link randomly drops the interfaces 2 or 3 times a day and some times runs for 3 days and it starts again.
all there is in the logs is “data from unkown device; sent deauth”.
Yet the other side of the link never fails ,
noise is ok and signal is good, were using 5 ghz
this has only started since we built the vlans interfaces.
eg on valns intefaces we have
security cameras vlan 1
office vlan 2
PABX Voip vlan 3
guest internet Vlan 4
managment Vlan 5
if i reboot the router with the fault its all good again for 9 or 10 hours
there are never any TX or rx drops or errors ?
Any ideas any one
