stuck on 6.42.6

My RB1100AHx2 (powerpc) seems to be stuck on OS version 6.42.6. I’ve successfully upgraded firmware to 6.42.6 too. When I try to upgrade the OS beyond this using “packages” it downloads , reboots, and comes back up still running 6.42.6 with the npk file visible in files. Suggestions as to what is wrong would be appreciated by this noob. Files shows 59% free.

Is there anything in logs?

I’ve just turned on “critical” and “error” logging to disk. I’ll try another update round and update this thread with what I find in the log.

If nothing else I’ll download my configuration, reset the router, and then update it and finally reload my configuration to it. I assume that ethernet jack 1 and 192.168.88.1 will allow me to get going via web browser (set computer’s IP to something like 192.168.88.2 first, of course). I know how to back up and download my configuration in “files”, I run a wi-fi hotspot and use ueserman to adminster users; I’ll also back up the hotspot files along with user-manager/logsqldb and user-manager/sqldb. I assume these backups will be all that I need to get everything running exactly the way it is running now. Most of that stuff was built by others with more knowledge in those areas than I have.

The problem has been solved. I backed everything up to a computer, used netinstall to bring the router up to 6.43.13 and then reloaded my files and reinstalled my one extra package (userman).

Solved in what way? I still have no sense of what was wrong that prevented the upload of newer firmware the normal way?

Solved in that I now have a current OS. I’m assuming that there was some corruption or other error that prevented the normal OS upgrade process from happening with a reboot after downloading he required npk files. I don’t know why that would not work this time as it’s worked for me before. Hopefully with the reformatted NAND and fresh OS it will upgrade normally the next time it’s needed. Time will tell.

Got it, you did the best thing to ensure a safe/secure restart.
