Suggestion for 30 miles link

I am attaching a Ligowave report for a link I have to implement.
I got a signal of -83 at the TX site on scanning the remote end. (practical test)

Please suggest ways to improve the link, need atleast 4 mbps consistent throughput.
Hardware used is Groove Metal.

If the path profile is correct, there is no clean LOS so the link won’t be stable.
You could try to mount antennas on highest possible position on both sides,
use higher frequency (5700 + MHz), bigger antennas and horizontal polarization.

I have encountered this on many occasions and when there is no line of sight between point A to B then either put a repeater in the middle or sometimes if not in direct line then a location that has LOS to point A & B and maybe also used as additional AP’s

I have a repeater in between but that site is unmanaged. Hence I want to have the link from my managed site.

I don’t think Horizontal antennas can help with signal strength. Increasing the height at other end seems to be a probable and possible solution.

No but horizontal polarization can improve your S/N ratio as:

  • little bit less susceptible to multipath
  • more immune to majority of generated noise on this band that is mainly in vertical pol.

But as more equipment is Dual Polarity noise will increase but I agree Hoz is a better choice

If you have a repeater in between and this has LOS, then it is a better choice to link A to B but please explain “unmanaged Site”

Also to increase antenna height at points A/B you have to go up high enough allow for freznel zone clearance otherwise your throughput will be low?

If you don’t have clear LOS, multipath can be a good thing (up to a point), because every reflection increases the energy that reaches the far end. The limit is with the MIMO receiver’s ability to de-tangle these multiple signals with varying delay and reconstruct the original signal. So if you have a small number of strong reflections (as opposed to a massive blur of weak reflections), multipath can be a Good Thing™. Ultimately, you have to just try it and see what works best.

Just looking at the attached picture and from calculations -103.35 dBm is listed, your co-ordinates have L instead of E for east, also RX Threshold -30 dBm I use -90dbm, still I get -109dbm at RX site but cannot understand -83 practical reading using 5180, it should be zero at that point with the high ground in between point A & point B, sorry for asking but are you sure it’s not another station on that frequency that is giving this reading, is it constant if not then it would appear you could be getting signal thermal ducting effect

Not sure multipath will work effectly when there is not LOS and especially if the link was a PTP where bandwidth and reliability is very important also does anyone have experience with how much improvement in CCQ is achieved by this method

Unmanaged site as in human support needs 4 hrs atleast to reach. Increasing height from 40 ft to atleast 80 ft should do some good.

I am sure it is not another station because I have that far link as bridge and station on my tower. As far as Ligowave coordinates, I checked the Map and the sites are exactly where I want/confirmed. Today I a going to explore possibilities from the repeater site which is at 12 miles. I dont think there should be any problem.
